For 30 years the Charleswood Adult Day Club has been in operation in the old section of Charleswood on Roblin. It was just announced by its operator Lions Housing Centre that it will close in October. No further explanation was given. Locals have expressed grave disappointment as well as the province. It has been hard for many service organizations as they too are older and not able to raise money or recruit new members as they once did.
The organization has given up the lease on the space and it unclear if the landlord has a new tenant. The province is transferring some people into the program at Deer Lodge. The province says they may try to re-establish the Charleswood program but Lions may have moved so fast that the same location has been lost.
With ever more people headed to retirement this is a very bad look for social service agencies and the government.
