Main Street Part 2

200 Main Street.

Google Map location of 200 Main Street (formerly the Manitoba Sports Federation Building)

The Manitoba Sports Federation Building was constructed in 1990 (the Free Press says 1989) and until this year housed the various entities representing several sports organizations.

The first floor has been the location of Ivory Restaurant and Assiniboine Credit the last several years. There is also a Handy Mart on the first floor.

The building is seven stories tall with a 310 stall underground garage. In 2003, Wawanesa bought the building and in recent years they have eyed their possession with interest as they are literally bursting at the seems in their nine story office building at 191 Broadway across from VIA Rail station on Main Street.

And so it went with Assiniboine Credit Union as well. They have been growing after merging with Vantis and Astra in 2007. With the departure of Sport Manitoba to Pacific Avenue (more on that in another post), the opportunity came for Assinibone to move from various suburban locations to the downtown.

This is a good news story for two businesses in Winnipeg who continue to grow and prosper and who have made downtown their main base for office staff.
