Charleswood-Tuxedo Election and Starlight Tours
The Free Press is reporting today that the University of Manitoba did an investigation into "starlight tours" starting in 2006 when police chief Jack Ewatski said he believed they were urban lore.
After 76 people came to relate their stories, the sociologist at the university had to stop as it was just too much to process.
In the candidate's debate at Charleswood United Church, candidate Livio Ciarelli said something about driving criminals 20 miles out of town.
When I mentioned that such a comment reminded me of starlight tours, his reply was:
"...if it were legal, I'd drop them outside the City a good distance outside."
It would appear that Winnipeg does seem to have a problem with picking people up as suspects and dropping them out of town, sometimes without coat or shoes.
Further, Ciarelli said we can respond as such:
"Or we can have the Hells Angels move into Charleswood, its your choice. For me, i have zero use for them and if i can disrupt this way, all the better."
I don't think I was the only one at the Charleswood United Church debate that thought about the consequences of dropping people out of town.
