Hangers Fashion Warehouse Closing After 22 Years

Hangers Fashion Warehouse Location at Grant Park Shopping Mall

After 22 years in business, Hangers Fashion Warehouse is closing their four remaining locations in the city of Winnipeg and Steinbach.

They are:

Portage Place
Northgate Shopping Centre
Grant Park Shopping Mall

And in Steinbach:

Clearspring Shopping Centre

The owner of the company is retiring and it looks like no one was left to take over.

The Grant Park Mall location of the store only opened in July of 2010.

I never shopped there personally but recall a joke that could only be told in Winnipeg:

My mother applied for a job at Hooters. They gave her a job application for Hangers.

Sorry to see a long time Winnipeg store close.

One wonders what Portage Place and Grant Park Shopping Mall will find to replace these stores.

Didn't they have a location by the airport? I remember my mom bringing me there for some sort of torture session or something once.

That's been closed for a couple of years now., they just kept the mall outlets.

When it first came out it was something quite new to the scene but when Winners came in they really 'category killed' that market Hangars had to itself locally.

I'm not sure if there was much 'fashion' or decent labels being sold at Hangars in the past few years.

It is too bad, though, to lose another local business.

I'd have to agree with Mr.C's assessment about the quality of Hangers' merchandise. The Portage Place store is absolutely jam-packed with merchandise to the point that it's difficult to move around - the real problem is that little of it is appealing.

For what it's worth, there are still (as far as I know) Hangers locations in other cities including Edmonton and Saskatoon. Is it safe to assume that they are closing too?

Reed: The location around the airport closed a number of years back but was very busy during a lot of that time.

MrC. I do think stores like Winners probably ate Hangers lunch.

OMC: Don't know if the store elsewhere are owned by the same company. With the departure of Hangers, that end of Portage Place might be good for a makeover.

if you look and really notice, there are tons of good things at that store, and the prices are still the best I have seen anywhere. Plus now that they are all closing the prices are unreal. I bought a lot of things there the other day and im going back for more.

I went there the other day after I saw the ad that they are closing. I noticed many of the same things that Winners has, but Hangers prices were a lot lower. I saw some blazers they had that Winners had for 39.99 and Hangers have put them on for 19.99. the exact same ones.

Hanger's had alot of nice things in my opinion too. And inexpensive for the most part. It was a shame to see it go.

By the way, they're offically closed now - all locations.

I worked for Hangers for the last 8 yrs. and really miss working there and the people I worked with. My district manager (Rob Hanslip) was a super person to work with and well respected. Overall it was a great company to work for.

I loved Hangers!! The great thing about it was I could always count on finding something fantastic there for a BARGAIN... I also loved that 90% or more of the pieces I bought there were quality, unique and MADE IN CANADA, something that should always be trending in fashion. I always felt guilty leaving that store with my big bag of scores where any where else the same price would've bought me 2 or 3 items from China. You are missed even today Hangers!! But still cloth my back after years.
