Not So World Class Stadium

Word now comes that there is a shortfall for the Winnipeg Stadium project at the University of Manitoba.

Here's another thing that would have been nice to know before the election.

So does this mean that someone is going to go cup in hand to the city for more money? Sam Katz promised the stadium would be world class. Ditto Greg Selinger.

It looks like you and I the taxpayers are expected to pay for this facility's shortfall in money.

Not if I can help it!

We'll have to pay for that other Asper screw up too, the Museum.

Looks like the Aspers are drinking on us.

It is a long list of bills we seem to be on the hook for.

And while the mayor was able to avoid any fall-out since bad news came out after the election and will continue to come out in the weeks ahead, the provincial government is now on the hook for some major bad news announcements.

Huge overruns on a building that still only looks like a field ain't good.

And coming after a poor Bomber season, momentum to get this done is a slog.

Our present stadium was called the House That Jack Built in part because a hugely popular quarterback and a great team compelled civic pride and demand for a better facility.

Where can we look for that type of momentum now? It fades with every loos and with every dollar in cost overruns.
